Tie dyed eggs

I found this fun idea on a blog and really wanted to try it. It's egg dying using silk neck ties. If anyone else is interested in trying it go here. So I went to a local thrift store and bought up all their silk ties and invited my friend Val over for a morning of crafting and then I got that darn kidney stone. Two weeks later, Easter has come and gone, and we finally got around to doing it. I guess now we have a year to perfect our technique!

Growing up

Connor lost his first tooth the other day. He knows how to tie his own shoes now...in double knots. My little boy is growing up.

A Day at the Beach

Yesterday was hot, hot, hot! I heard we reached triple digits here in Poway and I believe it! We were planning on heading out to the Wild Animal Park after school, but it was just too darn hot so we decided to go to the beach instead. Here's Amanda heading out to catch some waves!

In the past my other kids have been fairly timid when it comes to going out in the water, but not Madison! As soon as she saw Amanda head out to boogie board she wanted to go to. She loved it but we didn't get any pictures because it took at least two of us to hold onto her and the board. She got dunked a couple of times and she was shivering because the water was so cold, but it didn't stop her! I finally had to bribe her with a cookie to get her out of the water!

Even though the weather was hot, the water was NOT, so the kids spent most of the time digging a big hole to make a wading pool for themselves.

The kidos writing their names in the sand.

The best was Connor's because you can see a scary Madison shadow in the background!

Right as we were leaving a big wave came and filled their hole with water. All that digging was worth it!

Spring Break-Day 4

Another laid back spring break day at the Young house. Sam went to what turned out to be an all day birthday party.

Connor gave Madison rides around the backyard on his 4-wheeler which, as you can see from her face, she was thrilled about!

Shaun and Amanda got our small garden planted. This is Amanda's first value project she's working on for Young Women's.

Spring Break-Day 3

Day three of Spring Break was pretty laid back. Shaun took the kids to see this movie. They all really liked it.

Of course a little time was spent at the softball field, and that was about it. No rushing anywhere, just a nice relaxing day.

Spring Break-Day 2 "Ouch"

Day two of Spring Break did not go exactly as planned. I had doctors appointments scheduled for Amanda and Madison, but I was the one that ended up at the doctor, the E.R. to be exact. I thought I was dying, ends up it was a kidney stone. Any of you out there that have experienced one of these know what I am talking about. Thankfully it was Spring Break so Amanda was home and able to watch the kids, while Shaun and I were at the hospital. I'm so proud of that girl. We left her home with them for four hours, and she played out back with them, played board games with them, fed them lunch, and got Madison down for a nap!

This was on the door when we got home from the hospital.

I love my family. I hate kidney stones.

Spring Break

I've been kind of bummed that we didn't get to go to Utah for Spring Break. Then I realized that I live where a lot of people like to go for Spring Break and so I needed to take advantage of that.

First thing this morning we went for a walk, and judging from the expression on my face I was taking it very seriously!

As usual, Amanda watching over Connor.

Then we spent the afternoon with some friends playing in our "not as cool as it looked on the box" pirate swimming pool.

All in all not a bad first day of spring break!

Saturday IS a special day

I love Saturdays. This is what I spend most of mine doing.

Watching this little guy play t-ball.(He's the pitcher, which I think is funny since it's t-ball!)

Watching this girl play softball.

And watching this girl play softball.

I use the term "watching" loosely since I really spend most of the time chasing this one around.

This Saturday was no different, except for that after the last game of the day Sam's team had a bar-b-que. It was a lot of fun.

We had three-legged races.

and wheelbarrow races.

The highlight was definitely the surprise attack on the coaches with water balloons. Unfortunately it happened so fast I didn't get a picture!

And thank goodness for TiVo. Since I didn't get to watch any of General Conference today we can have a marathon tomorrow. I can't wait to tell my kids!

"Egg"-cellent

This is what my kids "egg"-cellent teachers got for Easter. They are so simple and oh so cute!

This is the very simple recipe:

Jelly Bean Nests
2 cups miniature marshmallows
1/4 cup butter
1 (6 oz.) pkg. chow mein noodles
Jelly beans (I used Cadbury eggs because I love their muted pastel colors)

Combine marshmallows and butter in a 2-quart saucepan; cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, until melted (6-8 minutes). Stir in noodles until very well coated. Press mixture on bottom and sides of each buttered 12-cup muffin pan with buttered fingers. Refrigerate at least two hours or until firm. Remove from cups; fill.

S'mores

Samantha had to give a speech today in class. It was a demonstration speech and she decided to demonstrate three different ways to make s'mores. Amanda was not in school today so she and Madison and I got to go watch. Sam did a great job and her class loved the samples she brought to share!

There she is finally making some eye contact!

Good Times

Yesterday I got to spend time with this girl that I haven't seen for about 15 years! She skipped quality family time at the Maritime Museum to hang with me. What a good friend! Yesterday after I got home from our visit I pulled out all my old photos from my freshman year of college. All I can say is good times! (Maybe a little too many good times for me, as reflected by my G.P.A. that first year)
